NAEP 2024 Results: How DPS Students Are Performing
Every two years, students across the country take the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) in reading and math, providing valuable insight into student performance over time. The 2024 results were recently released, and Denver Public Schools (DPS) showed notable progress.
Overall, DPS students saw gains in both reading and math from 2019 to 2024, outperforming other large districts nationwide. However, when examining the data more closely, significant achievement gaps remain. Students from low-income households in DPS continue to score below their peers across Colorado and the nation, with disparities between economically disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged students larger in DPS than in other large cities.
These trends align with what we’ve seen on state assessments and highlight the ongoing need to address educational inequities. To dive deeper into the results, check out the full analysis prepared by an independent consultant for Denver Families.
