Why is education important to you?

Education is important to me because I believe that education should be a fundamental right. All of our children should have access to a high-quality education regardless of their background, color, language, disabilities, looks, economic status, etc. Unfortunately, education is a privilege that only some enjoy, not all. Education is the key to a brighter future for our future generations. Education means a future for our children. Without education, can you say that we have a future?

What is the number No. 1 you care about in Denver Public Schools?

Unfortunately, there are many issues I care about, such as equity, opportunities, high-quality education, inclusion, healthy food, safety, highly qualified educators, resources, and the list goes on. …

What advice do you have for other parents who want to be more involved in public education?

I will tell them not to feel intimidated by the system and if they feel lost, start with their child’s school. Go to your child’s school meetings and events. Start there and then move forward. Get involved with organizations like Denver Families to learn about the school system at a district level and stay involved. Parents have a say in public education and their voices need to resound across the district. Parents – get involved in DPS!, Your voices count. We need you!
